Martin Cradick

Bridging Cultures Through Music

Born in England in 1961, Martin Cradick is a musician, composer, and producer whose work bridges cultures through sound. In the 1980s, with Dr Didge, he co-founded Outback, a world music band blending guitar and didgeridoo with Celtic, African, and Middle Eastern influences. As a multi-instrumentalist, Martin helped shape their innovative, genre-defying style.

A life-changing encounter with the Baka people of Cameroon in the early 1990s led to the creation of Spirit of the Forest (1993) and the founding of Baka Beyond with his wife, Su Hart. The band fused traditional Baka music with modern global influences, creating a distinctive “ethno-techno” sound.

As well as appearing on many of the albums on this site, he has recently made some solo recordings. Soundtracks is an album he recorded live to sell while busking, and Cello Improvisations was inspired by his composition module, part of an MA at SOAS, London.
